This 1977 Chysler CL Charger 770 has been through a full bare metal, nut and bolt restoration into a cool mild custom street car. Starting with the body, the car was taken back to bare metal and any necessary repairs performed before being completely repainted in Galaxy Blue Metallic by Rock Solid Auto Body. All of the chrome and stainless on the car was refinished or replaced. The glass in the car was also replaced all round with the exception of the side windows which were kept due to better fitment of the originals (new side window glass supplied with car). The 770 vinyl details on the doors and side of the car looks like new. The period look is completed with original W35 option Sankey Benson alloy wheels and white lettered tyres.
Inside the car has been completely retrimmed in black vinyl with suede inserts. Everything has been redone from the carpets to the headliner. Along with the restored factory instrument cluster, there is a trio of gauges neatly mounted above the centre console. There is a neatly fitted stereo system with upgraded factory look head unit, tweeters in the dash, custom kick panel speakers and a sub and amp neatly placed in the boot. Keeping everything comfortable inside is factory air conditioning which has been upgraded with some modern componentry.
Open the bonnet and you will find a 360LA V8 that has been completely built and stroked to 410ci. The engine set up features Edelbrock electronic fuel injection, Edelbrock Performer RPM Aluminium heads, ARP head bolts, Edelbrock RPM air gap intake, Lunati Voodoo flat tappet hydraulic lifter camshaft, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Mopar Performance billet rocker shaft hold downs, Jet Engineering custom pushrods and CAT timing gears. Spark is supplied by a Mallory ignition with MSD E-curve distributor. A Melling high volume oil pump and Milodon sump keep everything lubricated and exhaust gasses are expelled by a set of Pacemaker headers into a custom dual exhaust. Keeping everything cool is a PWR alloy radiator, SPAL 16″ 3000cfm thermo Fan and Davies Craig electric water pump. Fuel is stored in a custom aluminium drop tank with new filler tube.
The engine is paired to a TCI Streetfighter TF904 automatic transmission with B&M weighted flex plate and 2200 rpm stall converter. An uprated tail shaft feeds power to the original diff housing containing with 3.08 ratio LSD centre and 28 spline custom Yukon axles. The Suspension has been upgraded with Mopar Performance torsion bars, reinforced front suspension mounts and uprated front and rear sway bars. Helping to stiffen it up is chassis extenders and steering is provided through a power rack and pinion set up.
The car has been very well restored and received some fantastic upgrades. The current owner estimates the car has only travelled around 150,000 kms from new and less than 3,000 kms since the restoration was completed.
