This 1976 Holden HX LE Coupe has been through a restoration and restored as a GTS tribute. Like all of the 580 HX LE cars, this one started life at the GM-H plant in Pagewood, Sydney. The car was then sent to North Pine Motors in Petrie QLD where it was sold new to Mr Mervyn Holt, on the 19th of January, 1977. Being an LE, it was fully loaded from the factory with a 308ci V8 engine, Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, power windows, power steering, power aerial, integrated air-conditioning, heated rear window, quadraphonic eight track cartridge player and tinted windows. The LE was the last hoorah for the original Monaro body style and Holden threw all the luxury gear at it.

The body of this car left the factory just like all of the LE’s finished in L.E Red with gold pin striping and details. This particular car has been restored in the body with the owner making the decision to turn the outside of the car into somewhat of a GTS tribute. The body is finished in Mandarin Red with the LE front and rear spoilers removed and GTS style black outs and badges added. The paintwork is of a high quality and has been professionally completed. Rather than the factory LE Honey comb wheels, the car now sits on a set of period Jelly bean wheels with white lettered tyres.

The interior of the car is all LE and was extremely plush for its day. The factory trim combined GTS features with a walnut finish dash fascia and unique driver focused centre console. The seats are covered with deep red crushed velour and cloth trim in a unique pattern. Its comprehensive equipment listing from the factory included power windows, power steering, power aerial, integrated air-conditioning (no longer fitted), and heated rear window. There is an older style Pioneer CD player stereo system fitted to the dash. A cool period accessory is the venetian blind in the rear window.

Under the bonnet of the car lives the original, matching numbers 5.0L V8 engine that has been fully rebuilt and stroked to 355ci. The engine is paired to the original Turbo 400 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory diff. The driving experience is nice thanks to power steering and power brakes.

The car comes complete with its original log books and documentation, being an LE, it’s a rare beast and one of only 580 produced. Be sure to register and bid if you would like to see this bad boy parked in your garage.
