This 1972 Ford F100 has been fully restored, converted to right hand drive and tastefully upgraded. This isn’t your run of the Mill F100 pick up, this is truck everyone wants but no one has, it’s a 4×4, top of the line XLT, fully optioned, big block, short bed F100. To our knowledge there aren’t any others of these in Australia and if there are, there couldn’t be many and we have never seen another here before. Back in 72 Ford Australia only did the f100 with a Canadian 6 cylinder and 2WD, not in 4×4, or a ranger XLT variant – just a stock 2wd 6 cylinder ute.
We have known this truck for a long time having imported it for the previous owner several years ago. It has since had a full restoration here in Australia. She had a complete frame off restoration in the states several years back, then once imported, our very particular and fussy client went through this truck again restoring it to an original classic high standard. Someone previously spent big bucks on the truck in the states and there has been about another $40k spent here in Australia again (not including purchase/import price etc). We then sold the truck to a good client who surprised his father with it for his birthday. A little while later the truck was sent back to us to be converted to Right Hand Drive. A donor truck was purchased for its RHD dash and firewall and we converted all of the RHD gear across to this truck including the RHD wipers and cowl.
Under the bonnet of the truck lives a 360ci V8 that has been fully rebuilt and cranked out to 390ci. The build involved acid cleaning the block before it was re-bored and honed. The engine was fitted with heavy duty Speed Pro Pistons with chrome molly rings, Harland sharp roller rockers and arms, new heavy duty rods and valve springs, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads with Cobra jet oversized valves, Edelbrock Performer PRM manifold, Edelbrock Performer cam and new polished 750cfm Holley Carb. Spark is provided by an MSD ignition system and exhaust gasses escape through a set of Hedman ceramic polished headers into a 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust system. The engine is paired to a fully rebuilt four speed manual transmission and power is pushed to all four wheels through a rebuilt transfer case. The truck has been fully rewired with all restored electrics.
The body of the cab has been fully restored and repaired in its original yellow over white two tone paintwork. All of the chrome and stainless has been either restored or replaced as has the wood applique down the side and back. The tray is neatly restored inside with a clip on tonneau cover over the back. The rear is setup for a towbar and the truck sits on a set of original style steel wheels and hubcaps with BF Goodrich MT tyres.
The interior of the truck has all been refinished in the original style black cloth trim with bench seat. The first thing you notice is the RHD conversion which is a mirror style conversion using a factory RHD dash and fire wall sections. The dash features upgraded Dakota Digital gauges and there is remote central locking with immobiliser. The floor of the cab has been sound deadened before new carpets were put in. Keeping things comfortable inside is air conditioning, power steering and power brakes. Lap sash seat belts have been added for safety. There is a Retrosounds classic look Bluetooth stereo system for tunes while cruising.
There trucks are super popular and this one being a later model is perfect for the businessman and big boss to drive as a daily. The truck ticked all the boxed from the factory being a short bed 4×4 optioned with factory AC, power steering, disk brakes, Ranger package, factory cloth seats etc. The truck is taken to a new level being fully restored here in Aus and now right hand drive converted. The sale of the truck includes a copy of the Marti Report which confirms its original spec.
