This 1971 Ford XY Falcon Panel Van has been through a complete nut and bolt rebuild with a huge number of upgrades into one super neat cruiser. You don’t often see XY Panel vans and this one has been fully restored inside and out and made to be what essentially is a GT van replica if it had the black out and stripe delete option.

The current owner purchased the van early last year from Griffith, NSW. It was a full project that started life as an Ultra white coloured, 6 cylinder column shift work horse. With the intention of a full build, it was enough to work with and the van was purchase and immediately stripped back to its undies for sand blasting. The car needed a whole bunch of body work and repairs which included all new floor pans, inner sills, outer sills, radiator support panel, rear quarter sections and all around the rear window. Once the metal work was completed, the car was repainted in the iconic colour of Vermillion Fire. With the colour laid down, the van was fitted up with all fruit you would expect on a GT including front spoiler, genuine refurbed GT grille, driving lights, badges, modified tailgate mould, GT mirrors, fuel cap and antenna. The front bar is a rechromed original rather than a poor fitting repro with all new bumperettes. The hood is a GT style with bonnet pins and shaker sticking up through the middle. The GT look is completed with a set of new Bathurst Globe wheels and red striped tyres.

Open the door and you will see an all new interior also completed in GT style. Under the all new carpet, the floor was covered in Dyna mat to insulate it and deaden the sound. There are new seats, a new dash, new console, new sun visors, new door trims and a custom made full length head liner. Even behind the front seats is trimmed in GT black vinyl. The factory style clock is upgraded with a digital reproduction and the stereo is an original look Retrosounds item with Bluetooth capability. All of the rubbers were replaced, new strikers and latches, new windscreen, rear window and all of the bolts replaced or replated. The wiring harness has also been gone through and refurbished.

Under the shaker bonnet is a completely rebuilt 351ci Cleveland V8 engine making a genuine 400hp at the fly wheel. During the rebuild the engine was upgraded with a mild cam, roller rockers, Wieand intake and 750 cfm Brawler Carburettor. Hang ons including the starter motor and alternator were also replaced. Exhaust gasses escape through 4:1 pacemaker extractors into a new 2 ½” custom exhaust. The engine bay is detailed to look factory GT with correct rocker covers and factory style stampings and markings.

The engine is paired to a brand new C4 automatic transmission with 2800 rpm stall converter. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 9inch diff running 3.55 diff gears. All of the front suspension components have been replaced with new control arms, idler arms, bushes etc. and the rear leafs were reset. The steering box was reconditioned as was the steering column. Pulling things up is a reconditioned brake booster, new master cylinder, new brake lines and four-wheel disc brakes.
