This 1970 Ford Fairmont has been completely rebuilt from the ground up into a tough XY GT Replica. These XY GT replicas are always extremely popular and this one is very well finished in one of the most desirable colour combinations and with a cranky Cleveland V8 under the bonnet.
The car left the factory in September of 1970 and was a Fairmont sedan finished in Track Red with Black interior. The car has been through a full nut and bolt restoration and transformed into a tough GT replica. The body of the car was stripped down and professionally repainted in its original colour. The appropriate GT parts were fitted to the car including black outs, GT grille, GT mirrors, bonnet pins, shaker, GT stripes, front chin spoiler and rear spoiler. The look of the car is completed with a set of 15” Bathurst Globe wheels wrapped in red striped tyres.
Inside the car has been completely refinished back to factory in black vinyl. There is a GT rim blow steering wheel with GT dash in place. The front bucket seats are split by the correct style console with automatic shifter. Everything from the carpets on the floor to the headline above has been refinished. Likewise, the boot is neatly fitted out with the factory style rubber boot mat.
Under the bonnet now lives a tough built 393ci Cleveland Stroker V8 engine rated at 600hp. The engine is built with forged internals and topped with a Holley sniper fuel injection system. Spark is provided by an ICE ignition system. The exhaust features custom headers which have been ceramic coated into a twin stainless steel exhaust. The engine is paired to a three speed automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff with Detroit locker. The suspension has been rebuilt with new shocks and springs all round and the steering system has been upgraded with an electric power steering pump.
The car was purchased by Classic For a Cause who gave the car away as part of a charity promotion for Aussie Veterans and the winner who is WA based has asked us to put the car to auction for him. These XY GT Replicas are always extremely popular and this is a well built example with a tough engine under the bonnet and finished in a desirable colour combination.
