This 1968 Holden HK Kingswood is a cool Aussie classic cruiser that has been through a full restoration. The car began life in the Acacia Ridge Factory in Brisbane in January of 1968. The car was an original HK Kingswood powered by a 307ci V8 with an automatic transmission and finished in Grecian White with Pampas Fawn trim. The car was purchased by the current owner way back in 1993 and used sparingly right up until 2010. It was at that point the car was pulled off the road and over the next 12 years, received a full restoration into what you see today.

Starting with the body, the car was completely stripped, blasted and etched using PPG system. Very minimal rust was professionally repaired before the car was repainted in its original shade of Grecian White in 2013. The inside areas have intentionally been coated in flat clear and the underbody satin black with seam sealer as per factory. The whole body was rust proofed for future protection. A new Nasco Chrome bonnet spear was added along with new bumpers and exterior door handles.  A full body rubber kit was also used during the assembly. To complete the factory look externally, the car sits on stock HK 14” steel wheels which have been repainted and fitted with original hubcaps and new Yokohama tyres.

The interior has also been refinished to match the exterior. The seat are covered as per original using NOS vinyl and were redone by Supertrim in Coburg, Melbourne. Door trims are remain original with new armrests and interior handles up front and additional Nasco interior handles on the rear. The dash pad is a good original item. New original seat belts with Brisbane spec buckles and fittings were added for safety. The kick panels and boot partition were supplied by Classic Auto Products. The floor would have originally been vinyl but the owner wanted the comfort of carpet so used new carpets and underlay.  A cool period accessory is the original Nasco rear venetian blind. For tunes while cruising there is a new Retrosound AM/FM/DAB/BLUETOOTH Head unit that looks original but has all the modern features including mic for handsfree calling and new Infinity 6×4” speakers hide in original centre locations. Keeping things cool inside is an original GM under dash air conditioning unit that blows nice and cold.

Under the bonnet lives a period correct, 307ci V8 engine which has been fully reconditioned. The engine bay is very well presented all round. The engine is built to factory specs but with a .020 oversize bore and including a “towing” high torque cam.  There is a host of new or refurbished accessories including a Pertronix ignitor 2 ignition system, new fuel and water pumps, refurb Rochester 2 bbl carb and refurbished correct alternator. The engine is paired to a reconditioned Powerglide automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a pink tail shaft into a LSD, 2.78 ratio, Banjo diff. The engine has only travelled approximately 1,200 kms since the rebuild.

The suspension components have all been blasted, painted satin black and rebuilt. There is lowered springs, new Shocks and Kmac sway bars front and rear. The steering system has been completely restored including the steering column and rebuilding the original date coded steering box. The brakes received new hard lines and flex hoses as well as new pads and machined discs up front with rebuilt dimpled V8 drum brakes on the rear.

The owner of the car is fussy and works an automotive profession teacher for a living. He has spent countless hours of time and large amounts of money to build the car into what you see today. The build was completed in 2022 and has only travelled approximately 1,200 miles since completion.
