1966 Ford Fairmont XP V8 Sedan

HIGHLIGHTS: – Modified XP Fairmont sedan – Built 302ci V8 engine – C4 automatic transmission and B&M shifter – Nine inch diff with LSD centre – Disc brake front end – 14” Cragar Street Star wheels – QLD mod plated

This 1966 Ford XP Fairmont sedan has been fitted with a V8 and neatly modified. Early Falcons and Fairmonts like this one are popular Aussie classics and this one is packing some more punch under the hood than they ever had out of the factory. The car was purchased by the current owner 15 years ago. Back then it had been painted like you see now and did already have a V8 put into it however that engine was taken out and replaced with a better set up along with a host of other modifications during his ownership.

The body of the car has been fully repainted more than 15 years ago in a metallic blue colour. The chrome front and rear bumpers also appear to have been replaced and are in good condition. The windows have been tinted all round and the car sits down low over a set of 14” Cragar Street Star wheels.

Inside the car has been retrimmed in a combination of Grey vinyl and velour. The front bucket seats have been sourced from a Nissan Skyline for extra support while the rear remains factory Fairmont. Retractable seat belts have been added for safety and there is a 90s era aftermarket CD player fitted with six inch speakers in the kick panels and 6×9” speakers in the parcel shelf. Between the front buckets there is a B&M Quick Silver auto shifter and there is a monster tacho mounted to the steering column.

Under the bonnet is neatly presented with the engine bay all nicely painted to match the exterior. Sitting in the middle is a built and upgraded 302ci Windsor V8 engine. The engine build started with an early XT Falcon block and features ported cast iron heads, bigger harmonic balancer, heavy duty competition flex plate and a cam kit out of the US including push rods, cam, roller rockers, lifters and dual timing chain. The engine is topped with an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap manifold and 760 Holley Carb. Fuel is supplied from a bigger fuel tank by a new electric fuel pump through braided lines with fuel pressure regulator.  The engine is kept cool thanks to an upgraded water pump and XY Falcon V8 radiator with thermo fan.

The engine is paired to a C4 automatic transmission with 3,000 rpm stall converter and B&M Quick Silver ratchet shifter. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford nine inch diff with limited slip centre and 3.0 gears. Exhaust gasses are expelled through extractors into a custom twin exhaust system. Up front bigger stub axles have been fitted from an XG Falcon ute along with the XG brake calipers and aftermarket slotted rotors. The rear brakes have been upgraded to 66 mustang drums.

The car has been fitted with a QLD mod plate mounted in the engine bay. These early Falcons and Fairmonts are always popular Aussie classic cruisers. This one has been fitted with a warm V8 under the bonnet and a bunch of upgrades to make it way more fun to drive than stock.
