HIGHLIGHTS: – Restored Mustang coupe – Factory 289ci C code V8 – Automatic transmission – Pony interior trim with console – Power steering – Power brakes with discs up front – 14” GT Style wheels and white wall tyres

This 1966 Ford Mustang coupe is an iconic American classic car that has been neatly restored with some great options. The Mustang started life at the San Jose plant in California where it rolled off the line on the 20th of May, 1966, as a C code 289ci V8 coupe with C4 automatic transmission finished in Signalflare Red with Black luxury interior. The car comes to us as part of a deceased estate and was owned be the current owner for at least 15 years. While always well loved, the car did sit around for a few years so was recently sent up to Layne at Classic Service and Repair in Sumner to make sure it was well sorted and street ready for its new owner.

The body of the car has been restored in its original colour of Signalflare Red. The chrome and trim on it has all been either refinished or replaced. The car has accessory wheel arch moulds, bonnet emblem, rear venetian blind and dual exhaust. To complete the look it sits on a set of GT styled wheels wrapped in new white wall radial tyres.

Inside the car has the deluxe pony trim and is well optioned. The trim has been completely refinished in its original black colour. There are deluxe wood grain trimmings on the gauge cluster, optional centre console and glove box lid which also bears Carrol Shelbys signature. The steering column features the extra Rally pack gauges and holds a deluxe wood rimmed steering wheel.  There is a period style clock mounted on top of the dash and an accessory tissue holder underneath it.

Pop the bonnet and you will find the factory 289ci V8 engine. The engine bay is well presented in a factory style with the original air cleaner collecting the signatures of a number of famous race drivers throughout the years. The engine is paired to the original C4 three speed automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory differential. Creature comforts include power steering and power assisted brakes with Kelsey Hayes discs up front and drums in the rear. Just prior to the car coming here, it was sent to Classic service and repair at Sumner where the family spent a significant amount of money servicing it and then going through the car mechanically to ensure it was in top order for the new owner. Some of this work included all new gaskets to the engine, new lower control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, leaf spring hangers, bushes and sway bar.

These first generation Mustang coupes are iconic American classic and this one is very well presented in its factory colour combination and is loaded with some great options. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this little Pony parked in your garage.
