This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback was built in the San Jose factory in California, completed on the 24th of February, 1965. The first year Fastback was equipped with the A code 289ci V8 engine and a C4, three-speed automatic transmission. Little is know about its early life other than it was sold new in Los Angeles which means it likely lived most of its life as a dry Californian car. It is believed that the car was imported into Australia in the early 2000s before being converted to right hand drive by Barry Reynolds of Early Pony Parts in 2006. The conversion was approved by Vic roads through KC Williams Consulting. In November of 2008 the car was sold to a gentleman in Victoria who only put 8,000 miles on the clock during his 12 years of ownership but did perform a disc brake upgrade on the front end. In July of 2020, Rob from Sydney Mustang spares purchased the car and used it as a daily commuter for a short time before selling it to Sydney philanthropist Sheona Devin. Sheona’s mother had recently been diagnosed with cancer and she could see that this diagnosis was taking its toll on her father’s mental health. She purchased the fastback and used it as a project they could work on together to keep his mind off the diagnosis and bring them closer together. In January of 2021, after months of working on the car, Sheona had seen how beneficial it was to her father and she made the decision to donate the car to a not for profit charity, Top Bloke Foundation to use as a raffle car for men’s mental health. The Fastback was raffled off and won by the current owner in August of 2021.

Today the car presents very well, to prepare it for the raffle, the exterior of the car was taken back to bare metal before being coated with Dulux primer followed by Dulux two pack, Honey Gold Metallic, and then finished with Dulux High Solid CL12. The repaint was completed by Blu Flame Automotive. Externally the car presents like factory sitting over a set of 14” styled steel wheels with red striped tyres. The factory presentation extends to the interior, which has been recovered in its original Ivy Gold Vinyl. The centre console between the front seats adds some extra class to the interior. Pop the bonnet and you will find the A code, 289ci V8 engine which is paired to a C4, three speed automatic transmission. The engine bay isn’t dressed up with lots of bling, again preferring a factory style look. The brakes have been upgraded to include disc up front. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a right hand drive converted, A code, 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback. Be sure to register and bid if you would like to see this Mustang parked in your garage.
