This 1963 Holden EH Special wagon has been through a complete nut and bolt restoration over the last three years. The car was purchased by the current owner, Owen Webb, who is well known as Australia’s leading car show judge at both Summernats and Motor Ex. Owen purchased the car as an unfinished project in 2020. It had been stripped down for a few repairs back in the late 90s and sat in that state ever since. With Owen’s work and reputation, you know he isn’t going to half do a restoration on one of his personal cars.
Once he purchased the car, it was immediately sent off to be sand blasted and begin its restoration. The body received new front guards and bonnet while the rest remains mostly original steel with just a few minor rust repairs. The body was epoxy primed, all filler over epoxy, high filled and base coated before 2K clear top coat. The car is painted in the original Aqua turquoise with Fowlers Ivory roof. The chrome and bright work was all either refinished or replaced at the same time. Completing the factory look externally, the car sits on a set of HR steel wheels with factory hubcaps and white wall tyres.
Open the door and you will find an interior that presents as well as the outside having been restored back to original specs. The floors received new carpets and the headlining was replaced up top. The trim on the front seat was in very good shape so it was retained while the rear seat was recovered as was the boot area. The door cars were all replaced at the same time. For tunes while cruising there is a Bluetooth stereo hidden in the glove box.
Open the bonnet and you will be greeted with a highly detailed engine bay which houses a fully rebuilt 149ci 6 cyl engine. The engine has only just been built by Nepean Engines and only has around 10 kms on it. The engine is paired to a three speed column shifted manual transmission which has also been rebuilt. The front end has been upgraded to include HR suspension and disc brakes while the rear end remains all new, completely restored factory items. The level of detail on the car could be described as show quality, there are factory style paint dab marking on bolts all around the engine bay and the whole way underneath the car.
This EH Wagon was built with the intention of keeping it without regard for cost of restoration. Owen being well know for detail, has done a fantastic job on the EH and enjoyed it during his ownership. The time has come for someone else to enjoy the car now so Owen has sent us the car to be put under the hammer. If you’re looking for one of the nicest restored EH Wagons in the country, it might be time to clear some space in the garage.
