HIGHLIGHTS: – Desirable pillarless ‘Sport Coupe’ – 350ci V8 engine – Turbo 350 automatic – Airbag suspension – Air conditioning – 605 Power steering upgrade – Power windows – Power disc brake front end – Dakota Digital dash

This 1957 Chevy Bel Air sport coupe has been tastefully upgraded into a neat street cruiser. The car was imported into Australia approximately 6 years ago and is currently with it’s second Australian owner. The car is a factory V8 Bel Air in the highly desirable pillarless sport coupe configuration. Externally the car presents very well having been repainted in the 57 Chevy hero colour of Turquoise with a white roof. The chrome and stainless trim externally appear to have been replaced or refinished with some of the standard Gold coloured Bel Air trim and badging replaced with chrome. The car sits slammed over a set of stagged 18/20” Chrome Coy wheels.

Inside the car has been retrimmed in black and white but retains the iconic Bel Air ‘cloud’ trim insert. The old school gauges are gone and have been replace with a Dakota Digital gauge set that mounts into the factory cluster. There is even a matching Dakota Digital clock on the passenger side to complete the set. Under the dash is the gauges and manual valve switches to control the air suspension. The car also has factory style power windows that do work however it should be noted that the driver’s side rear window is current inoperable and will require some attention. Keeping the cabin cool and comfortable is an aftermarket air conditioning system.

Lift the bonnet and the old factory 283 has been replaced with a bigger 350ci Chevy V8 engine. The engine itself is reasonably stock but does feature an Edelbrock performer intake and Edelbrock carb with electric choke. The engine bay is dressed up with Edelbrock valve covers and finned air cleaner. Everything is kept cool thanks for an alloy radiator with thermos fan up front. The engine is paired to a Turbo 350, three-speed automatic transmission which is a big upgrade over the factory Powerglide. Other notable upgrades include a 605 power steering conversion, electric fuel pump, electric wiper conversion and brake upgrade to include power assisted front discs. The suspension has been converted over to air bags with the rear being a bag over leaf ‘load assist’ style set up.

These 57 Chevys sport coupes are among the most iconic 50s American cruisers and this one has a whole host of upgrades to make it the ideal family cruiser.
