1955 Chevy Belair Sports coupe

HIGHLIGHTS: – Pillarless sport coupe – Restored by Boyd Coddington hot rods – 400ci V8 engine – Turbo 350 automatic transmission – 9 inch differential – 605 Power steering upgrade – Power disc brake front end

This 1955 Chevy Belair is the top of the tree pillarless sport coupe and has been through a full restoration with a bunch of cool upgrades. The resto and modifications were undertaken by the famous Boyd Coddington in his hot rod shop back in 2006. The car was sold from Boyd’s shop to a gentleman from Victoria who imported the car to Australia in September of 2007.

The body of the car was fully restored at Boyd’s and repaint in a cool two tone with a pearl white over a deep metallic blue that throws some purple shades in the right light. The blue portion of the car was repainted in 2015 by Terry Moulds Paint and Mechanical because the owner at the time was fussy and wanted to repair some stone chips. The chrome and stainless trim on the outside of the car has all been either refinished or replaced and there are some cool accessories with chrome grille and gravel guards. The car has a few neat touches like crystal look head lights and sits down nice and low over a set of Billet Specialties Vintec Wheels measuring 18” up front and 20” tucked under the rear.

Inside the car has been completely retrimmed back to a factory look in blue vinyl and cream fabric. There is a Ididit chrome tilt steering column holding a billet steering wheel. The dash has a billet facia panel with custom gauges mounted in the original style cluster. There is a neatly integrated stereo system for tunes while cruising. For safety, retractable lap belts have been fitted up front with regular lap belts in the rear.

Under the bonnet is a 400ci Chevy small block V8 engine. The engine has an Edelbrock Performer air gap manifold and if topped with a Holley carb. There is a set of aftermarket headers that flow into a custom exhaust system. The engine is paired to a turbo 350, 3 speed automatic transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 9 inch differential. To improve the driving experience, the Chevy is fitted with a 605 Power steering upgrade which is one of the best things you can do in a tri-five. The brakes have also been upgraded with a power booster and discs fitted in the front end.

These tri-five Chevy’s are always popular and this one has some great upgrades in one of the most desirable body styles, a pillarless sports coupe.
