HIGHLIGHTS: – Full ground up custom build – All steel hot rod pick up – Built 81A, 24 stud, 239ci Flathead V8 – Five speed manual transmission – Show quality paint and body – Custom leather interior – Detailed undercarriage – Chrome smoothie wheels with white wall tyres

This 1932 Ford Pick Up has been through a full nut and bolt ground up rebuild into a classy custom hot rod truck.

Starting with the chassis, Garry Page was tasked with putting it together and used new American stamping rails which were then C notched and kicked up in the rear with custom bracing. The front end uses a traditional dropped I-beam with hairpin link while the rear is a four link coil over with panhard bar. Steering is provided thanks to a HQ holden steering box. Braking is provided by an under dash pedal system and uses discs up front and drums in the rear.

Powering the truck is a 1938, 81A, 24 stud, 239ci Flathead V8 engine. The engine was fully rebuilt and upgraded by Mike Davidison at Flatattack in Victor Harbour S.A. The engine maintains its original bore with new pistons and rings, Offenhauser intake manifold topped with twin Stromberg 97 carburettors. Spark is provided by a Mallory Crab style electronic distributer. Other upgrades include a Powermaster starter motor and 75 amp generator. The engine is paired to a five speed manual transmission sourced from a Toyota Supra. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a 8 ¾ inch rear end. The entire engine bay and undercarriage was highly detailed to an elite level show car finish with every visible item either painted or polished.

An original 1932 Ford Pick up cab which was sourced from Bakersfield in California by ‘Old Tin’ in Ballarat in Victoria. The original 32 cab was for the basis for the build with the rest of the body built using all new steel repro parts. The tub is all new and sourced from Mac’s in the USA while the fenders and running boards are Brookville items. The body preparation was tasked to Steve Alldrick from Deluxe Rod shop. The paintwork was then completed inside, outside, and underneath in an OEM Aston Martin colour by R&M Restorations in Victoria. The firewall was painted a contrasting white and the bumpers were deleted as were the bonnet sides for a traditional hot rod look. The running boards are smooth items with stainless strips running down them. A set of chrome smoothie wheels wrapped in wide white wall radial tyres finish off the exterior.

The interior of the truck received the same level of attention as the exterior. A Glide Engineering seat keeps things comfortable and steering is controlled through a Le Carra banjo wheel. The floor is covered in German square weave carpets and the whole interior is recovered using a tuck and roll pattern in Tan leather with Green piping by Dynamic Trimming in Boronia. The entire truck was fully rewired by SG Electrics. Inside the tub is neatly painted to match the outside and features a custom-made insert using American Cherry wood and coated in a clear urethane. The fuel filled has relocated and is now a flush mount door in the floor of the tub.

Once completed, the engineering of the truck was completed by JC Bonneville of Bonneville consulting. The detail on this build is second to none and the truck has won a host of awards including Top Street Rod Pick Up at the Victorian Hotrod Show 2019, Top Hot Rod at Melbourne Show Cars 2019 as well as a Meguiar’s Super Stars qualification. The truck was also featured on the front cover of Australian Street Rodding magazine in May of 2019.
