This 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 has been fully restored and is a fantastic investment grade muscle car. The 1969 Boss 302 was a special model Mustang developed by Ford for racing homologation in the SCAA race series. Because the program was run in secret, the head designer would often be asked by other employees what he was working on, his standard response was simply “The bosses car” which is where the nickname was born and adopted. As a result, 1,628 Boss 302 Mustangs were built in 1969 and sold to customers for road use. What made the Boss unique was its engine setup, essentially it was a 302 Windsor fitted with Cleveland heads to allow it for flow better. Other than the head change it received a strengthened engine block, 8 valve cover bolts instead of the usual 6, High-strength steel connecting rods and smaller spark plugs to make more room for the valves. Although most of the changes were centered around the engine this wasn’t the only difference. The car needed to handle, stop and steer so a wide range of other components were upgraded along with specific styling like the side stripe, black bonnet and headlight black outs. These days, Boss 302’s are highly sought after by Mustang collectors around the world.
This particular Boss 302 was built at the Dearborn Plant on the 11th of July, 1969. It is finished in its very desirable and original factory colours of Calypso Coral with Black bucket interior. It is powered by a number matching Boss 302 engine and is backed by a four speed manual transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels through an optional ‘V’ Code 3.91 traction lock rear axle complete with oil cooler. Factory equipment on this car includes power steering, power brakes, front and rear spoilers, rear sport slats, colour keyed racing mirrors, tachometer, AM Radio and more. The car comes with two sets of wheels and tyres for two distinct looks. A set or original Magnum style wheels with period correct Goodyear Polyglass tyres for the factory fresh look and a set of Minilite trans am style wheels for a period race car stance and look.
The sale of the car includes Marti report, owners manual and warranty booklet. The original engine tag, steering box tag and diff tag are also preserved with the paperwork on file. These ’69 Boss cars don’t come up very often and would make a great investment grade muscle car.
