2010 FORD GT40 Recreation

The Ford GT40 is the car that Henry Ford Junior created in conjunction with Carroll Shelby to beat Ferrari at the 24hr of Le Mans. The car you see here is a high quality recreation of the original. The result of many hours and a huge financial investment to bring it to life. The car began with a space frame chassis and body from Roaring Forties, one of Australia’s leading GT40 recreation companies. Roaring Forties kits are widely renowned and are said to be registrable in all states of Australia.

The body of the car is extremely accurate to the original, and manufactured from hand laid glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The door handles and fuel filler cap are exact replicas of the originals. There are 600 individually drilled and tapped holes with 600 cap head stainless steel screws (as opposed to rivets) throughout the body. The car is painted in the infamous Gulf racing livery to replicate the number 6 Ford GT40 that won the 1969 24hrs of Le Mans. The livery is complete with sponsor stickers and race numbers. The blue and orange portions are painted on but the rest of the decals can be removed if you wish to step away from the race look. The aesthetics of the car are completed with a gorgeous set of recreation billet machined, Halibrand Wine Glass wheels with tri bar knock off retainers.

Open the doors and you will see a very period correct-looking cockpit. The holed hollow riveted seats replicate the original units and are manufactured specially for RF GT40. There are both 5 point racing harnesses along with 3 point lap-sash belts on the seats. The dash is very accurate to the original with a full suite of gauges to keep an eye on the vital signs. An original style steering wheel & boss continue the look. The windows are the correct fixed Perspex type with hatch style openings for ventilation. Some creature comforts that are present in this car but you wouldn’t find in an original are: air conditioning, a reversing camera and fold out screen as well as front and rear parking sensors.

Flip up the back section of the body and it will reveal a period correct 302 ci / 5 litre V8 crate engine. The engine is beefed up with GT40 heads and a Morrison throttle body setup that is an absolute work of art. There is a MoTeC M800 Engine management system to keep everything in check. The engine is paired to an Audi 6 speed transaxle that was recently rebuilt with limited slip differential and a right hand gear change just like the real GT40s. Fuel is supplied courtesy of a twin fuel pump system with polar valve. The suspension is fully adjustable coilovers on all four corners. To ensure the car stops as well as it goes, the brakes are Wilwood discs front and rear with 6 and 4 piston calipers respectively, and a twin master cylinder system. The custom stainless exhaust system on the car is an absolute work of art and is made to comply with noise regulations for engineering.

These cars were created with the sole purpose of winning at Le Mans so they are naturally very track focused. Despite the livery and looks, this car was built for the street and has previously been engineered and registered in South Australia. It should be noted that if you are 6ft or taller in height or a heavier set person, you would need to make modifications to the car in order to fit comfortably and drive this vehicle. A great opportunity to buy a high quality, turn-key GT40 replica without having to go through the countless hours and costs of building one yourself.
