This 1988 HSV VL Walkinshaw Commodore is a low milage example of one of the most iconic Aussie cars ever built. This particular car is very early production being build number 6 of the first run of 500 cars. An additional run of 250 cars was later added making a total of 750 built.
Externally the car is in its original presentation and shines brightly in its signature Panorama Silver hue. The paint work is believed to be original on the car and has been well looked after over its years. The polarising Tom Walkinshaw designed body kit that made these cars so famous is still all in place. As with the nature of the extremely low body kits the front splitter does have some scrapes on the underside from being driven around. Completing the look on the outside is the original 16” Walkinshaw specific wheels.
The interior is again all original in factory presentation with the exception of an aftermarket stereo head unit. The trim is in great shape all round and well presented in general. Creature comforts include power windows, power steering and factory air conditioning. The dash features the signature of Tom Walkinshaw who was the Scottish race car driver who oversaw the design of these cars and founded HSV.
Under the bonnet is the original 5.0L V8 engine which featured factory fuel injection for the first time on a Holden V8. The engine featured a unique dual throttle body intake with hood scoop fed induction. The engine is paired to the original T5 five speed manual transmission. The odometer on the car is displaying 83,701 kms.
This example was put to auction earlier this year where the car was purchased by the boys at Classics for a Cause. The car was offered as a prize for a charity auction they ran to benefit Aussie veterans however the winner decided to take the cash instead of the car. Luckily for our customers, they boys have decided to put it to auction with us and you now have rare the opportunity to own one of these highly sought-after Aussie collector cars.
