SOLD! 1977 CHEVY SQUARE BODY PICKUP
1977 CHEVY RHD SQUARE BODY SILVERADO
This 1977 Chevrolet Silverado is a complete ground up custom build to a level rarely seen on these trucks in Australia. Everything on this truck has been refurbished, upgraded, or replaced. The truck started life as a factory big block V8, short wheelbase, C10 Silverado, a cool truck in its own right. When the truck arrived in Australia, it was stripped back to a bare chassis. The decision was made to rebuild the truck as a right-hand drive so instead of cutting up the original cab, an Australian delivered cab was sourced, meaning the dash, wiring, wiper etc. were all in the right places. An XF Falcon steering box was then used to complete the conversion. All the higher spec ‘Silverado’ Gear and trim was swapped over into the new cab.
The body was stripped back and fully repainted in white with a custom period “Square body syndicate” style paint scheme. There are some very subtle custom modifications that include the fuel filler and doors being shaved with a hidden filler relocated into the inner wheel well, rear roll pan, hidden tow bar behind the flip down number plate and driving lights custom recessed into the new chrome front bumper. Along with these subtle custom touches, the truck received a Gaylord’s Truck Beds lockable hard lid, all new body moulds, Hella H4 headlamps and new door rubbers. The red, white, and blue paint scheme is very Americana and true to the period which suits the truck perfectly. Inside the bed is nice and factory straight and has been perfectly lined with a spray-in liner to protect it for years to come. There is a dual battery conversion up front in the engine bay with new batteries and a 12-volt outlet with a digital volt gauge in the tub. The whole truck has been completely rewired from headlights to taillights. To finish the look, the truck sits over a set of chrome 20” American Racing wheels.
Open the door, and the inside has received the same level of attention as the outside. There is a set of aftermarket bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black leather and suede with electric seat heaters.
Creature comforts include power windows, power steering, tilt column, heated seats, air conditioning and central locking. The dash is finished in a carbon fibre look with Dakota Digital Square Body Syndicate series gauges filling the cluster. For some tunes when you are driving along there is a full Alpine stereo featuring CD/USB player with Bluetooth capability, 6 1/2” splits in the front doors and a 12” subwoofer mounted in a custom console between the front seats. Also in the console is a pair of cup holders and a B&M quick shifter for the auto trans. A full air conditioning system by Speedy Air was installed behind the dash to keep the cabin cool and comfortable. The carpets and headliner are all new with everything finished to a super high standard.
Pop the bonnet and you might get a surprise. Instead of the old school big block, the truck is now running the best of modern technology. Front and centre is the 403 ci LS stroker V8 engine with ported LS3 heads, a Texas Speed Inlet manifold, and Holley Sniper throttle body. There is a custom twin intake mounted to the front with pod filters on either side. Exhaust gasses are expelled through a custom stainless steel exhaust system with ceramic coated extractors. The engine is paired with a built 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with a heavy-duty deep pan and TCE 3000 rpm stall converter. There is a new custom tail shaft feeding power through to a new 3.7 ratio Truetrac diff with new wheel bearings. The front end received all new ball joints, tie rod ends, upper and lower control arm bushes, drop spindles and a reconditioned steering box. A high level of detail was used with all the bolts being cadmium plated. Pulling everything up is a set of four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors.
All said and done, this is potentially the best ‘Square body’ Chevy pickup in the country. The whole truck has been completely restored here in Australia with tasteful modifications and improvements throughout. Since the truck was completed, it has only travelled approximately 1000km. The truck has previously been on full Victorian registration and has been fully engineered there.
