This 1971 Holden HQ LS Monaro has been fully restored and treated to some tasteful modifications. The car was purchase by the current owner back in 2015. The car had been sitting in a garage in Central QLD for 20 years at the time and was good in the body but was due for a complete restoration.
In 2016, the car was sent to Eds Restorations to be stripped down completely and refinished. Although the body was pretty good to start with, it still required major panel repair and fabrication work to get it right. The body and roof sections were massaged with metal work and the doors were reskinned. With everything complete, the car was professionally repainted in Pewter Pearl metallic. The chrome bumpers and stainless trim was all either refinished or replaced at the same time. The external look is completed with a set of 15” Weld Draglite wheels.
The inside needed to look as good as the outside so the car was given a full retrim. The seats and headlining were upholstered in custom black vinyl with new door trims from Winner Products. The carpets were replaced as was the dash pad. Front and centre there is a new GTS style steering wheel with power steering making for a nice drive. Keeping things cool inside is a new ‘Vintage Air’ air conditioning system. For tunes while cruising there is a Bluetooth stereo system.
Under the bonnet lives a 308ci V8 engine which isn’t original to the car but period correct. The engine has fully been rebuilt by Stones Automotive Engineering and upgraded with a mild cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, MSD Pro-Billet distributer and Holley 600cfm carburettor. Keeping things cool is a new four core copper radiator from Red Devil Radiators. The engine is pair to an Aussie four speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a Salisbury 3.08 ratio rear end. The suspension and brakes remain factory with a brake booster and master cylinder. The power steering box has been fully rebuilt. Exhaust gasses escape through extractors into a twin 2.5” exhaust system. Finally, for reliability the car has been through a complete re-wire using a Painless wiring harness kit, including new fuse box and relays.
These HQ Monaro Coupes are extremely popular and this one has been neatly restored with a bunch of great upgrades and modifications.
