This 1963 Chevrolet Impala is a genuine low mileage survivor car that has been converted into a period correct 409ci tribute. In 1964, 18 year old, Ike Shelton of San Clemente, California, purchased a 1963 Chevy 409 Impala. Ike would spend most of his weekends at the drag strip with the car during the 60s before selling the car. It was the car that kicked off his passion for vehicles which grew into a car restoration and modification business called S&S Enterprises. In 1985, Ike decided came across another Impala but this time an incredible all original, low milage, 2 owner, 6 cylinder car. Ike purchased the car and kept it in his collection, out of the weather, rarely driving it but preserving the cars ‘time capsule’ like state.
In approximately 2007, Ike decided to convert the car into a 409 clone like the one he had back in the 60s using period correct parts and maintaining the originality of the low km starting point. Ike sourced a period correct 409/425hp, dual quad engine and four speed Muncie transmission. The engine was rebuilt and fitted into the car. The car is fitted with a twin-disc Mclead clutch and stainless headers into a full 3” exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. The inner guards were powder coated and the engine was highly detailed to factory standard. The front guards and a section of the bonnet were carefully repainted to repair some minor stone chips but all of the panels are original to the car and the rest of the car is believed to be original paint work. The suspension was rebuilt front and rear along with the cooling system. The Carbs were rebuilt and correct air cleaner fitted. The exterior stainless trim is all original items and fit as such. The front and rear bumpers are original items that were removed and replated.
Inside the trim is said to be all original with the exception of the carpet which was replaced due to slight fading. The seat covers and foam, door panels, headliner, and dash are all completely original. The weather stripping and glass are also original items. There is the correct style tacho mounted on the dash in front of the driver. There is a modern style radio hidden in the glove box and under the dash show original wiring typical of a high quality, low mile survivor car. Underneath the car is all correct red oxide style primer as it was from the factory. The odometer is currently showing 38,216 miles which is believed to be genuine mileage for the car which has won a number of awards since its completion. The sale includes a large file of documentation.
