This 1959 Chevy Corvette has been through a full ground up nut and bolt build into one of the country’s best restomods. If you are looking for a iconic classic styling, with supercar handling and performance in a no expense spared build, than this is the car for you. This is a custom-made machine, it was built over a period of eight years and its not something you can just go and order from a showroom regardless of how much money you have available.

Starting with the chassis, which is supplied by Art Morrison in the US and widely considered among the leading aftermarket upgrade chassis manufacturers in the world. This is their top of the line, GT Sport Chassis for a C1 Corvette with the upgraded AME multi-link independent rear suspension. The chassis was built to specification and the owner tells us this was an $80,000 exercise alone by the time it was spec’d up, converted to Aussie dollars and ready to go under the car with taxes and shipping. This chassis will run rings around the original with its handling thanks to independent suspension all round with Strange adjustable coil overs and rack and pinion power steering. A big plus is that it is set up for right hand drive to suit our roads. The brakes also received a massive upgrade, now running Wilwood 14.25” discs all round with 6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers in the rear and electric handbrake actuator.

Under the bonnet now lives a built LS3, fuel injected V8 engine with a Harrop supercharger sitting up top. The engine features an upgraded cam and performance heads while everything is kept under bonnet to maintain the original lines of the car. A specialty billet pulley system was developed to handle the boost. Cooling is looked after by a custom aluminium radiator and overflow tank running waterless coolant. Fuel is supplied by a custom fuel tank under the rear. Exhaust gasses escape thanks to a full custom stainless steel exhaust system with dual centre mount exit points under the back. The engine is paired to a new GM crate 4L60E four speed automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a Eaton locker diff with 3.54 gears.

The paint and body of the car were finished to a very high standard in gloss black with contrasting white coves. The chrome and stainless trim on the car was all completely refinished to a high standard. The bonnet is set up to lift on a power actuator from inside the car. Being an open top car and not really something you drive in the rain, the wipers have been shaved and there is no top but the mount bolts are in place if you wanted to add a hard top at a later date. The rear of the body has been tubber to accommodate a custom made set of 17” Hot Rod by Boyd wheels made by Chris Coddington.

Inside the car has been completely retrimmed in Italian leather by Car Interior Plus. The first thing you will notice is the right-hand drive steering position. The gauges are new Dakota Digital VHX series gauges in the factory look cluster. The cockpit has been modified to provide extra seating room and comfort. A Lokar automatic shifter pokes up between the two front seats, the steering wheel is a custom-made item and there is a push button starter. The boot has been fitted with a custom panel bead rolled with coves and painted to match the outside of the car.

The car has been previously registered in NSW and has been mod plated for Queensland. Restomod classic cars like this have a huge following and it’s easy to see why, they combine the best of classic styling with modern performance and reliability. Cars like this aren’t something you can usually buy off the showroom floor, they are custom built and take a huge amount of time and money to bring them to life.
