SOLD! LOT 139 – 1972 FORD S.A FAIRMONT GT SEDAN
1972 Ford S.A Fairmont GT Sedan
HIGHLIGHTS: – Factory MS33 GT Fairmont – Restored slowly over 7 years – Fully rebuilt factory 351ci V8 engine – Rebuilt factory automatic transmission – Repainted with vinyl roof delete – New interior trim in black to Aussie spec – Five slot wheels with red striped tyres
This 1972 Ford XY Fairmont GT is a genuine South African GT that has been neatly covered over to Aussie specs. These South African cars are a sweet spot in the market because they are true GT’s with 54H code GT shells and all the right gear but were sold in the S.A market as upmarket Fairmont models rather than Falcons like our Aussie spec cars. They are better than a GT Falcon replica but don’t command the same dollars as a real JG33 Aussie built GT Falcon.
This particular car has been restored slowly over 7 years and converted back to Aussie specs with the black vinyl roof removed, five slot wheels fitted and the Rhino S.A side stripe swapped back to an Aussie stripe. The car has been restored in its original colours with the exception of the vinyl roof removal. Inside the interior has been changed to Aussie XY GT Spec in black and is all new.
Lift up the bonnet and you will find the original engine which has been fully rebuilt and balanced. The engine received new pistons, manifold, high volume sump, cam shaft, roller rockers, carburettor and reconditioned 4V head with stainless steel valves. The engine is paired to the factory automatic transmission which has been overhauled with a mild shift kit and fitted with a 2000 rpm stall converter. The rear end is the factory 9 inch diff. Keeping everything cool is a new 3 core radiator. The car has also been rewired from front to back for reliability.
This is a great opportunity to pick up a restored and real GT for a fraction of the cost of an Aussie GT.
