This 1973 Chevy C10 Short wheel base pick up has been through a ground up build into a badass custom Square body truck. The current owner purchased this truck back in 2018 as a neat driver quality truck with a tough 502ci Big Block in it but during his ownership has completely torn the truck down and rebuilt it.
The body of the truck was stripped back to bare metal and received a few modifications and repairs before being professionally repainted by Palma Paint and Panel in Yeppoon, QLD. The old school two tone bright orange and white scheme was retained with extensive work in the tub to allow for the notch and air bag suspension setup. There is a reverse cowl bonnet, billet grille, new chrome bumper and updated headlights up front. The rear received wheel tubs, opening notch cover, fuel filler relocation and roll pan. The paint and bodywork took 12 months to complete but has given the truck a factory fresh appearance. The truck sits slammed down low on air suspension over a set of American Legend billet wheels measuring 20” up front and 22” in the rear.
Inside the interior has been completed refinished with a new bench seat trimmed in distressed tan with diamond stich detailing. The floor of the cab is covered in Dynamat before receiving new carpets. The dash is trimmed in matching distressed vinyl with billet switches and a full set of Autometer gauges. There is a Forever sharp steering wheel front and centre mounted to a chrome tilt column and billet pedals on the floor. The door trims and seat belts are all matched with a diamond stitch distress Tan headliner up above. A Dakota Digital air suspension controller is mounted in the dash with ‘Restomod Air’ air conditioning keeping things comfortable.
Under the bonnet lives a 502ci Big Block GM high performance crate engine. The engine was fully rebuilt and upgraded by Prodyno in 2021 and features forged pistons, Eagle 4340 H-Beam connecting rods, hand filed performance rings, Comp Cam custom ground performance cam, Hydraulic roller lifters, three piece true double roller timing chain set, aluminium heads, performance roller rockers arms, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap Manifold and Quickfuel Carburettor. Spark is provided by an MSD Pro-billet distributer and Blaster II coil. Since arriving the engine has been upgraded with a billet serpentine belt pulley kit to drive the alternator, air con, water pump and power steering. The engine bay is very well presented with lots of items chrome or polished.
The engine is paired to a Turbo 700r four speed automatic transmission which is column shifted. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a GM 12 bolt differential. The brakes have been upgraded with a new power booster and Wilwood dual master cylinder feeding four-wheel drilled and slotted disc brakes with Wilwood 6 piston calipers up front and four pistons in the rear. The truck is absolutely slammed to the ground thanks to a full air suspension set up installed by Rides By Kam. The truck runs a Porterbuilt level 3 front drop member which completely replaced the factory cross member and features tubular arms and rack and pinion steering. The rear clip is also sourced from Porterbuilt in the form of their four-link drop member which includes parallel four-link with panhard bar, cross member and frame notch to suit. This setup gives the truck the ability to lay the chassis all the way on the ground with up to a 29” tall tyre up front and a 30” tall tyre in the rear. The air is supplied through twin chrome Viar compressors and air tank which has been painted to match and located in the front section of the tub. Air management is controlled through a Dakota Digital controller mounted in the dash.
These early Chevy pick ups are extremely popular right now and this SWB Square body has been done right! With upgrades in almost every area, you will struggle to find a better truck than this one. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this bad boy parked in your garage.
