This 1971 Ford XY Falcon has been through a full nut and bolt restoration with some tasteful upgrades. The current owner purchased the vehicle in July of 2011 as a running and driving car in fair condition all round. In mid 2012, the decision was made to pull the car off the road and give it the love it deserved. A full restoration and three years later, the car was completed in 2015.
When the body of the car was stripped back to its undies, it was found to be in great condition with one three very small rust repairs required before being completely repainted. The car was originally a code “5” Teal Glow car from the factory. The colour now is very similar but a custom greenish-blue pearl by EVZ Spray Painting who covered the car inside and out to a high standard. The side of the car features a gold coloured GS stripe and the bumpers and trim have all been either refinished or replaced. Completing the look on the outside is a set of 15×8” Gold globe style wheels.
Inside the car has also been fully restored back to factory in its original “S” code light saddle trim. Up front there are bucket seats, GS wheel and dash with centre console to house the T-bar automatic shifter. Nothing has been left untouched and there is a remote control Clarion stereo system hidden behind the original radio face plate, a clever addition.
Under the bonnet is a 302ci Windsor V8 engine built by Bonds Engines in Townsville in 2013. The engine features Edelbrock E street heads, four barrel manifold and carburettor as well as a mild cam. The engine is paired to a C4 automatic transmission which was given a freshen up by Townsville automatics in May of 2012. The rear end remains standard equipment The front suspension has been upgraded to HO2 RRS coil over struts up front with reinforced lower control arms and castor rods. The rear end uses lowered leaf springs. Steering is upgraded with RRS tilt and collapsible column into a power assisted rack and pinion set up. Stopping power is enhanced with 297mm rotors up front with two piston calipers and braided lines.
The quality of this build is evident in the pictures with the owner telling us that every nut and bolt was re-zinced, even the hidden ones behind the door trims and under the seats. Good examples of these early Falcons are hard to come by and this is certainly a very nice example and something different to all the GT replicas getting around.
